Document Summaries

The document summaries provided in the Specs & Standards service are designed to save you time by providing quick access to key information. Document abstracts, history, authoring information, and referenced documents can be easily retrieved without having to dig through the document itself.

Click the Summary links in the results lists to view document summary reports. All documents do not include all three types of summary reports: Abstracts, History, and Referenced Documents.

Buttons on the Menu bar at the top of each window give access to the three document summary windows:

Abstracts

One quick look at this report can let you know if this is truly the document you need. Scope, Intended Use, and Keywords paragraphs are provided, if available. Click the Abstracts button on the Menu bar to retrieve the report.

Document History

Click the History button on the Menu bar to return to this window:

This window lists all documents in the document family. Click the document numbers to view the documents.

Note: If you subscribe to the Specs & Standards ECommerce option, you may notice documents with Buy icons. Click these icons to purchase electronic (pdf) copies for immediate download. More information on using the optional Shopping Cart feature.

Notice that the window also indicates if the original document is ANSI approved or DoD adopted, and lists the FSC (Federal Supply Class) and applicable PCNs ( IHS Product Code Numbers).

Links to FLIS (Federal Logistics Information System) data, a QPL (Qualified Products List), and Slash Sheet Specifications are provided (if applicable) at the top of Document History reports. The FLIS and QPL links can help you locate government and commercial suppliers of qualified parts.

Click the author's name on the Document History report to retrieve addresses, phone numbers, etc.:

You can use the check boxes and white buttons in the first column to add the documents to a Personal Document List. Searching by Personal Document List saves time and quickly retrieves your frequently referenced documents. Personal Document Lists can also help you stay on top of compliance issues by sending you email notifications when documents on your lists are revised.

Referenced Documents

Click the Referenced Documents button on the Menu bar to view a list of all documents mentioned in the original document.

Print
Click this link to print the current document summary window — Document History, Abstracts, or Referenced Documents.
View Doc
Click this button on the Menu bar to view the original document.
Add Doc to List
Click this button on the Menu bar to add the original document to a Personal Document List.
Last 10 Docs Viewed
Click this button on the Menu bar to receive links to the last 10 documents you have viewed.
